I don’t have a lot of experience with poetry. I like it, but having never taken a literature class in college (other than “masterpieces of American literature” which did not include poetry), I haven’t had much exposure to it.

There was one poem I studied my senior year of high school that I kept for years. But unfortunately, it is currently in a heart-shaped, red-striped box in my brother’s basement. I don’t know it’s name or the author, but I do know it’s about loooove… And that I loved it way back in the spring of 2005.

(I know that’s not that far back for some people, but it feels like forever to me).

I wrote a poem a few weeks ago. It’s about my horrid case of senioritis.

“Ode to my last 6 weeks of Grad School”

Current favorite poem:
I saw this poem from Grumpy Cat on Pinterest the other day. It’s kind of mean and violent, but I just can’t help loving it. Because Grumpy Cat makes me happy, in a weird, twisted way – you know.

Will Herondale. From The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. So, really, it's Cassie Clare, but I'm sure she would appreciate the credit being given to Will. He’s my favorite impromptu poet. This is my favorite of his random songs. Though really, all of them are good.

Road Trip Wednesday: Let's Go to the Movies!

The Veronica Mars Kickstarter success makes us wonder,

what YA book would you raise $2 million to see a movie version of?

This is my first time taking part in Road Trip Wednesday. I have wanted to participate for a while, but was waiting for this blog to get going. It’s going, so here we are.

What YA book would I want to raise $2 million to see as a movie?

(Luckily, my favorite book - Divergent - is already being made into a movie. I might die of excitement.)

My first gut reaction to this question is – Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Or Fire or Bitterblue.

I liked Bitterblue the best so I would love to see it as a movie, but it would need the set up of Graceling and Fire to reach it’s full potential.

But seriously? This world turned into a movie would be phenomenal. I would love to see all those different-eye-colored Gracelings on screen. I need to see Po and Katsa together, Fire and Brigan, Bitterblue and Saf. The fights, the survival, the Leck-infestested country – it would be a beautiful thing to see.

However.

Those movies all need WAY more than $2 million to be made well. So, I’m just going to hope that some film makers see the potential of these books soon and get that film rolling. Because I. Need. It.

So, a YA novel that I loved, but think could be made well on a smaller budget?

Delirium by Lauren Oliver – and, of course, Pandemonium and Requiem.

I adored this series as well. With dystopian fiction being my favorite genre, I was almost mad at Lauren for coming up with this idea before me! Then, I realized that as a just-starting-with-no-formal-experience writer, the story was much better told by Lauren than I would ever have been able to do. So, I’m very glad she got to it first.

But a society that has outlawed LOVE? That has attempted to fix all the problems we silly love-struck humans encounter? I’d love to see that come alive on screen.

I’d even more love to see Lena illegally fall in love with Alex. YES PLEASE!!!!

I love that the Veronica Mars start-up is happening. I never watched the show. But I love the idea that the consumers of stories – whether books or tv shows – might begin to have more say in what is made into movies. We’re the ones watching movies – why not get our opinions on what would make great movies?!
